Carpenter, an American) bored and elbowed Halswelle, .a Britisher, almost off the track. The judges broko the tape and declared the race void. Subsequently they disqualified Carpenter, and ordered the other three men- in the final to race ■ on Saturday, in strings. ■ THE TEAMS RACE. AUSTRALASIA RUNS THIRD. LONDON, July 25. In the Olympic contests Australasia beat Denmark in the first heat of the teams -running race. England won the final, Hungary second, Australasia third. Taylor finished four yards ahead of Battersby, who defeated Beaurepaire by a yard. They 6wam-shoulder to shoulder throughout. , The winner’s time was 22min 48 2-ssec. Batterabv continued, .and beat the English mile record, covering tho course in 24 min 33sec. ; !'
