A special meeting has been called for Friday, August 7th to grant permission to Mr W, L. Rees to lay down tram lines in the Rakauroa and Motor districts.

Owing to the inclement weather the Arbor Day celebrations at the High School were postponed until yesterday afternoon, when the pupils planted a number of trees, presented to the school by Mr.-G. Darton, and also some rose trees, the gift of Mr. Alex. Thomson. An address to the children on “Arbor Day” will be given in the school by Mr. G. Darton oil. Thursday afternon next, at 2 o’clock.

In connection with the theoretical examination by the Associated Board of tho Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, held last mouth, the following were tho Gisborne passes: Henry Charles Fraser 81 (Miss Robinson), Gertrude Barker 70, Winifred Malone 73, Hannah Scully 69 (pupils of Convent School). A “grand inarch,” introduced by ilro. M.’Segedin, will bo a special feature of the evening, and will bo conducted on a large scale. All tlioso interested and wishing to take part- in tho “grand march” are invited to a- practice in the Drillshed to-morrow evening, at 7.30.
