The open deck of a Derenport ferry boat crossing the harbor at. a lato hour on Wednesday evening (says the “New Zealand Herald”), was tho scene of a comedy which might easily have turned into a tragedy. Shortly before the vessel left the city jetty a number of seafaring roysterers wore consuming crayfirsh, ail articlo of diet to whicli sons of the sea are particularly partial, when an elderly gentleman of soldierly bearing came on to the wharf. A fragment of crayfish shell thrown at his head had a most unexpected effect ; for the elderly person turned on Ins torn tenters with a torrent of abuse, assuring them that he was ah officer and a gentleman. Shortly after the boat cast off, the peppery old geiitloman, with approved military strut and condecendwig manner, go exasperated the seafaring ones, that one of them took the liberty of rubbing crayfish in his face. Again tho effect was electrical, and before the bystanders could interfere the old 'soldier had thrown the sailor, and both rolled across the deck towards the open end of the paddle-box. The pause in the struggle just gave the spectators time to recover and seize the couple beforo they went overboard. For Bronchial Coughs take Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure. Is 6d and 2s 6d.
