Vo share your pride in that strenuous and noble past which thrice a hundred years ago began with Samuel do Champlain’s, landing, where stands to-day your noble city of Quebec. In your annals live for ever the glory of great names and great achievements over which today tlio . two groat mother nations must fuel a thrill of mutual prido. Vo rejoice in your splendid history, in all your steady rise to progress. With loving and .unenvious eyes we behold the majestic daughter of our parent land. New Zealand sends hor joyous greetings, .foeling more and more as years roll by that we share with you one life, one flag, one fleet, ono throne. —Joseph George 'Ward.” The Premier to Lord (Ranfurly, (who is representing New Zealand in the celebrations: “New Zealand joins in heartiest congratulations on the past, and best good wishes for tlio future of Canada. H ive cabled congratulations to Sir Wilfrid iLaurier.—J. G. Ward.”
Cable from Earl Grey, GovernorGeneral, to His Excellency: “Please convey to the Government and the people' of New Zealand Canada’s grateful thanks for their most generous gift on her 300th birthday, presented by Lord Ranfurly at the State dinner Inst night, in the presence of the Prince of Wales, and recoived with greatest enthusiasm.—Grey.” Sir Wilfrid Laurier 'also wired to thd Premier: “Sincere thanks for the good vidles contained in your message.—iLaurier.” The gift referred to is New Zealand’s £IOOO for .the fund to preserve and improve the famous battlefields.
