'By having at least the dates of the quarterly sales fixed it is hoped that- sellers 'and buyers will soon look upon those fixtures as worthy of supoprt and so help to establish a regular market at this, tlie natural half-way house between Gisborne and Opotiki districts. Although feed is getting scarce now, the stock generally are looking well, and we have come out of tho recent spell of bid weather very woll._ With the advent of spring Motu will look well again. A. meeting of the Motu Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was then held, Mr It. F. Jackson presiding. It was decided to ask the Chief Postmaster, Gisborne, to endeavor to nuke necessary arrangements, so that when the roads improve with the approaching spring, and now that the train runs to Willows, that the Motu, Rakauroa and Matartii mails come right through in tlio one day. This improvement will be a big help to passengers and also enable correspondents to catch both north and south boats coming and going. Tho medical profession in Gisborne has made arrangements so that tlie Motu telephone wire will lie connected with one of the doctors every and all night. In case of sudden illness or accident this will be i.i great boon to the country settler. In view of the recent favorable expressions and promises .made by the Premier and other Ministers we are again urging the speedy completion of the Pakihi road, Neil road, and construction of the railway to Bak.iuroa. Wo also urge that the railway be definitely located and authorised to and beyond Motu without delay. Tlie next monthly meeting of tlio Motu branch will lie field on August loth.
