The team Jolt by t*no 7 u.m. train and, 011 arrival ut .1 uha, were met, by two coaches, by which they were conveyed to AA liatntucu. After an oiirlv lunch, winch was kindly provided by the Alangatu Union, the game commenced at J .39 l” 1 ’*; Botli teams were practically at nil I strength, the only alteration an the visitors being that Crump took tlio place of Sharp in ,tho backs aiul JJnvjs replaced Nicolas in tho forwards, the weather was by no means desirable lor football, several showers of ram falling during the progress of the match. The ground was very solt, and players found it difficult to retain a foothold, whilst tho ball was so slippery as to almost preclude it being handled at all. The game throughout was decidedly interesting, play being practically confined to the iorwards. The visitors pressed *it» hrst, but the homo forwards broke away, and made several onslaughts on tlieir opponents line, from which relief was only found by forcing. Tho town team then woke up somewhat, and play surged un and down the field with 110 material advantage to either side. The town team broke away several times, butaccurate fielding and good lino—kicking bv the opixising backs nullified tlieir 'efforts. Attempts were made bv both teams to institute passing rushes, but tlio slippery ball and the insecure foothold rendered these hitilo Again the town team attacked, and Burke liad a fruitless shot at goal from a penalty. Shortly afterwards over-eagerness on the part of the visiting forwards lost a good chance, Alangatu forcing. Thou the home team replied with mi irresistible rush, and King mado a desperate attempt to score, hut was upended just 011 the lino. Alangatu kept up the attack, and presently a forward rush carried the ball over the visitors’ line, and King drojiped on it, registering a try. The kick at, goal was without success. The play for the remainder of the spell was of a fairly even character, and half-time soundccl with the game Alangatu 3, Gisborne nil. In the second spell play was quite as fast as that in tho previous spell, and the town forwards were getting to work in real earnest. Heavy linework, solid scrums, and swift forward rushes were tho order of tho day, but sound tackling and good rushstopping on eacli sido kept play mainly in neutral territory. The visitors again began to press.tlieir opponents, but two or throe passing rushes gained little ground. Finally, from a scrum near half-way, the Gisborne pack heeled out smartly, and Henderson gave Kaipnra a good pass. From Kaipara the ball travelled to Cramp, and then in turn to Thompson,Burke, and Campbell, the last-named, after a determined run scoring near the corner. Tate’s kick at goal did not improve the scores. From this out the game became very determined, both teams striving to increase their scores but without avail, and time was called with plav in midfield, the final result being, Alangatu 3, Gisborne 3. Air. J. AlcCredio was referee, and Alessrs F. Alaher and F. Petal - acted as linesmen. AA'hntntutu was left at 4 p.m.. _th<‘ team reaching Gisborne again at 7..30 p.m.
