GISBORNE CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting ot the Gisborne Bowling Club, hold at the Farmers’Union Club rooms last luglit. Air. W. Pet-tie, president, occupied tlm chair. ~ , Apologies for non-attendance were received from Alessrs AVitty, Wilson, R. Johnston, F. Harris, and Alalcolm. Air. C. H. Ambridge, secretary, read tho minutes of the last general meeting, which were confirmed. Tlic report and balance-sheet tor flic past season were presented. Mr. AIL Peitie said it afforded him much pleasure to move the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, lhe report was satisfactory in every respect, and must be gratifying to the committee. Ho congratulated the club on its increased membership. Amongst tlio new members were some promising men, who would, in future, worthily represent the club. lhe team that went to Auckland made a good fight, and upheld the honor ol the cl id). The play on tlio green had been of a highly interesting nature, and tlio inter-club matches wore features of the season’s play. Very few clubs in Now Zealand had members who would provide such handsome trophies for competition. Mr. Pottie further briefly reviewed the club competitions, and made special mention of the seats that had been so kindly irovidcfl by some of the members. Every nerson must admit, lie said, that the financial position of the club, was splendid. This showed that the funds had been judicially and economically managed. It was also indicative of tlio groat interest that was taken in. tho game in the district. He would like to see some move made during the coming season towards improving tho present pavilion. It was quite possible that the North Island championship would bo played in Gisborne in two years’ time. In conclusion, bo congratulated tho members on the satisfactory position of the club.' . Air. ly. ’ The election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows President, Mr. AY. Pettic; vice-president, Mr. AY. J. Henuessy; lion, secretary and treasurer. Mr. C. H. Ambridgo • committee, Messrs T. A. Crawford, Geo. Aliller, T. Clarkson, T. Corson, AY. R. Brady; auditor, Air. C. P. Davies. Tho matter of providing new pavilion accommodation was discussed, and eventually it was decided, oil the motion of Mr. Ambridge, seconded by AH. .Sheridan, that it- ho an instruction from the meeting to the incoming committee to go into the matter of providing funds for this purpose at tho earliest possible opportunity. • Tho question of getting the various competition matches played off to time was -also discussed, and it was decided that it be a recommendation to the committee to annoint two members to look into the matter, such two members 1-° be empowered b-. the committee to arrange the matches and insist on tlieir being played. The trophies won during the season were presented to the different winners. and before doing so the president aiinouncd that AH. J. AV. AYitty had signified his intention of again presenting a trophy for the coming season. -Alessrs J. H. Martin. Gaudin. Zaeliariah, and F. A. Alartin also promised to donate trophies. Shield Competition: AA r on by tlio Kiiit-i district. Second Handicap Fours, prizes presented by Messrs Lucas, J. F. Pottie, J. Sheridan, and J. Mn'cfnrlnno: AA’on by Alessrs E. Williams. Corson, AV. A. O’AToara, and AV. J. Hennessy. Air. J. Shoridnn, president of the To Ran Club, then presented the modulo won by the Clisborno Club’s representatives at tlio Auckland tournament. In doing so, ho said that it was n woll-'known saying that “AA’liatevor heats Gisborne would win.” He briefly referred to the honors earned by tlio Gisborno players in Auckland. Tlio prizes wore won by Alessrs F. A. Martin, T. A. Crawford, John Coleman, AV. J. Hennessy, F. Harris, R. Robertson, F. AA’. Eure, and AV. Pettie. Air. E. 11. Pavitt proposed n hearty vote of thanks to tho retiring officers, which was seconded by Air. J. 11. Alnrtin and carried with acclamation. A hearty vote of thanks to the chairman was also carried amidst applause. At the conclusion of the business light refreshments were handed round when the following toasts wijre proposed:—“Tho Representatives at tlio Northern Bowling Tournament,” proposed by Air. F. Sheridan, responded to by Messrs T. A. Crawford and F. Martin ; “The Donors of Prizes,” promised bv the President, responded to by Alessrs J. F. Sheridan •" I J. F. Pottie ; “The AVinners,” p-opoved by Mr. C. H. Ambridgo, responded to by those winners present. Tlio following gentloment notified their intention to make donations of prizes for the ensuing season: F. Pettie, J F. Pottie, J. F. Sheridan, and W. J. Hennessy.
