EVERITT BENEFIT CONCERT
Tho concert in aid of the Everitt family, which was held in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, was a very successful one. Tho house was well filled, and the audience fully enjoyed the programme submitted.' The Gisborno Private Band opened tho concert by playing the selection “The Golden Sceptre.” Master Tate was very successful in a comic song entitled “That funny bob-tailed coat,” and was accorded an encore. Mr, It. Wilkinson sang “Come, Love, to me,” and receiving loud applause, responded with a double encore. Mrs. Phil Barry was justly recalled' for her solo “The Children’s Home,” and Mrs. J. C. Collins was in fine voice and her singing of “Nearer my God to Thee” was so charming that an encoro was demanded. Mr. W. J. Taylor sang “The Singer was Irish,” and for an oneoro “If tlio world was ruled by girls.” Songs were also given by Messrs H. Citron, A. Williamson, IV. Machell, and H. Smith. The latter also gave an exhibition of conjuring with coins and billiard balls. Tho Gisborno City (Bund played a selection in tlio second part of the programme, and tlio ltice DraiiiFtic Company produced the side-splitting farce “The Chinese Question.” Miss Mcllhone, Mossrs Strong, Piper, and (Sharpies acted as accompanists. During tho interval ■ Mr. T. A. Holdsworth, on behalf of the committee, announced that the Battalion Band, Thames, had forwarded £3 9s toward the fund, and Mr. W. Webb bad collected £4O in Auckland. Previous to the concert the Gisborne City Band, Gisborno Private Band, and the Salvation Army Band marched from the iirebell to tho theatre, and played musical selections.
