STOCK EASES
The stock yards at Alatawhero had a true wintery appearance yesterday. There was mud and slush everywhere and tho cattle pens were almost empty. Only a handful of sheep and about fifty head of cattle were yarded, and winter lots, such as store wethers and ewes in lamb wero hard to sell. Thoro were a. few pens of ewes and this season’s lambs, and these met with fair competition at 16s fid and 17s. The principal sheep pens sold were 32 ewes and lambs 16s 9d, 100 tat ewes 13s, 113 ewes from the Kioro station 13s 6d, 31 ewes in poor condition os 6d, 174 hoggets 10s 6d. A pen of fat wethers and a pen of 393 good-looking owes wore passed in. CATTLE. Tho cattle met with fair competition, all the butchers’ lots selling, but tliero was no demand for stores. The principal sales were 3 primo steers £7 10s, two forward steers £6 10s, 30 young storo steers £3 17s. A dairy cow soon to calve was passed in for private sale . AYOOL. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company cable tho following report in the frozen meat market. To-day’s quotations are: Napier, AVellington, and North Island mutton 3Jd; lamb, first quality, 5Jd, second quality sj|d; beefforequarters, 3d.
