AVAPITI v. GISBORNE,

Yesterday afternoon, on Victoria Domain, tho visiting AVnpiti ladies team mot a junior team from the Gisborno Ladies’ Club. The weather conditions wero ideal, aiul No. * ground, on which tho match was played, wi>s, as far as it was possible to ' bo, in excellent order. As tlio teams took tho field it was soon Unit tho local girls wore much more youthful, and, ns was shown iator on, inexperienced also ;but wli it they lacked in ago and knowledge tlioy atonod for by a superabundance of energy that stood them in good stead. Tlio provious day thoir senior team had boon routed by tho visitors, but such was not allowed yesterday, and by dint of hard work and much agility they left the neld at tho conclusion of the match, if not winnors, at least unvanquished, the gamo onding in a draw, with no score on oither eido. Tho AA apitis, on the other hand, did not show tho dash they displayed on Thursday, and there was a lack of life and vim in tlicir efforts that was a contributing factor to their inability to score. For the greator part of the game they were on the attack, although the Gisborno team made occasional, and at. times dangerous, excursions into their territory. The game was by no means a slow one. The ball travelled backwards aiul forwards in no uncertain manner, but without oither side gaining any appreciable advantage. There was an evident lack of combination that completely nullified many fine individual efforts, and the shooting, when the hall had finally been brought within the circle, was uncertain and erratic. There was some good hitting, but some of it was deplorably weak. Thore wis also an. inability to make good use of when they presented themselves, and it call bo said that tho game was one of lost opportunities. AA'hilst the attacking work was poor, the defensive. work was better done, and several hulies on each side did good duty in this direction. Among tho visitors Alisses Swain, Stnepoolc. Kelly, and Freeman (2) were conspicuous for good play, and on the Gisborne side Alisses Coekerill, Robertson, Baty, Smith, Jones, and Fromm were responsible for good work. There were few breaches' of the rules, and the referee, Air. J. J. ALirtin, had an easy task.

This afternoon the AVapiti Club will play the Rata Club, play commencing on A r ictoria Domain at- 3 o’clock. Tlio following are tlio teams: — AVapiti: Goal, Aliss Granby; backs, Alisses Freeman and Cogswell; halves.
