On Saturday afternoon, on the Victoria Domain, tho visiting Wapiti ladies’ hockey team met the Ratii ladies. As tho weather was good this match attracted a big crowd, and nearly everyone prophesied a easy will for the home team, bn Sal though the visitors -appeared a bit tired at times, it being the third day in succession they have played a hard match, they put up a strong fight, anil showed they were not going to let the ltatas have it all their own way. From the bully-off the Wapitis attacked, and Misses Evans, Swain, and Smyrk took tho ball well into Te Kata’s twentyfive, but the backs were very safe, and Miss Matthews saved well. From this on the game was very fast and interesting, and both sides attacked anil defended well. The Ratas took the ball into Wapiti’s circle, and the defenders had the misfortune to have a penalty bully given against them. Miss Freeman was penalised, anil took the bully with Miss I. Goffe, who bent her and drove the ball into the net, registering a goal for the Ratas. The Wapitis tried hard to equalise matters, and Miss K. Freeman, who was playing well, was too anxious, anil hit the ball behind the line. The ltatas, with some good passing by .Miss A. DeLavitour and I. From this on the game was very keenly contested, anil there was great excitement, as first one, and then tho other team, had the advantage. Misses Evans and K. Freeman had hard luck in overrunning the ball, which was taken into Wapiti’s twenty-five by Miss A. DeLautour, but Miss Kelly proved too good a defender, and sent the ball out of danger. Miss Matthews took the ball back, but Miss Staepoole saved with a good hit. Somo very exciting play was indulged in oil both sides, and the Wapitis had to send the ball over tlieir own line to save. From a corner hit Miss 1. Golfe had a shot at goal, but failed to find tlie net. From a twenty-five lino bully tho Ratas got the ball into Wapiti's circle, and pressed hard on the defenders,against whom a penalty bully was again given. Miss Granby,' however, got the best of the bully, and took tho ball out of the circle. Tlie whistle soundoil soon afterwards, and thus ended one of tlio most exciting hockey matches that has been played on the ground. Mr. Pavitt refereed. AUCKLAND v. THAMES.
