CO-OPERATIVE BAKERY.

ELECTION OF DIRECTORS.

A mooting of those interested in tho formation of a co-operative bakery in Gisborno was hold in Townley’s Hall last night. Thero was a good attendance, and Mr. C. F. Lewis presided.

The business of the evening was to receive the provisional committee’s report (as published in yesterday morning’s “Times”), and to elect directors.

In answer to questions regarding tho paragraph ou the advisability of purchasing businesses offered to tlio society ns contained in tho report, and also regarding the question of the difference bolweon tho cost of securing a site, leasing land and starting on their own, and purchasing the business or businesses offered, the Chairman said that enquiries had been made on those subjects. (Several gentlemen were anxious that the comparative cost, of tho two projects should bo stated at tho meeting.

The Chairman pointed out that lie hud pledged lu's word not to divulge for the presont the price at which the businesses had boeu offered, but smid that £450 would bo required for the erection of a bakehouse and purchase oi plant, exclusive of horses, carts, and other details. Ho would go so far as to say, however, that a business, as a going concern, could bo .acquired for considerably less. Mr. Sievwright said that lie gathered they wanted to form a company, and register it before purchasing anything. Peoplo wanted to know tho approximate cost, and the prospects of business. A good many people did not care to take tilings altogether on trust.

After further desultory discussion tho committee's report was adopted, on tlio motion of Mr. Turner, seconded by Mr. McLeod. An amendment that clause 6 be struck out of the report was lost, only the mover and seconder voting for it.

The election of provisional directors was then proceeded with, and resulted ns* follows:—Messrs Paltridge, C. F. Lewis, John Somervell, J. C. Turner, and T. C. Cox. Mr. F. H. Lawton was elected secretary and treasurer, and s. vote of thanks to tho chairman concluded the meeting.
