ROWING-SHED SITE.
APPLICATION REFUSED.
The committee set up to consider the site for a rowing shed on the banks of the Waimata river last evening reported to the Borough Council that they had been unable to agree upon a site. The'Mayor said it would he a pity to spoil the view from the Post Office. The portion of the river from Fitzherbert Street might he granted, hut ho was .against any shed on the Kaiti bank.
Cr. Darton said lie thought a welldesigned shed would beautify the river. Cr Sheridan also thought a handsome shed would beautify the river. Cr. Pettie slid tho land oil the Waimata hank should be reserved and one section of the community should not be allowed to monopolise. He always supported rowing and was sorry he could not support the Club in their request, but the interests of the ratepayers must he preserved.
Cr. Williams said the bank was a public road, and the Council had no power to give or refuse permission. It was decided to inform the Poverty Bay Rowing Club of th it fact.
