EUCHARIST CONGRESS

THE PUBLIC PROCESSION. MODIFICATION' OF CEREMONY. United Press Association, Copyricht LONDON, Sept. 13. After two days’ telegraphic negotiations between Mr. Asquith and Monsignor Bourne, Archbishop of Westminster, the Premier deprecating the procession and Archbishop Bourne requiring Mr. Asquith to make a public request for abandonment, the Premier, intimated that it would be better, in the interests of order and goo'd feeling that a ceremonial of which he questioned the legality should not take place. Archbishop Bourne has decided that all ecclesiastical ceremonial should be eliminated from the procession. The "cardinals and bishops will proceed to the cathedral along the proposed route in full court dress., but the ceremonial procession will bo held within the cathedral, and the legate’s benediction will be bestowed from the balcony of the cathedral. The Catholics are intensely disappointed. Many special trains had been arranged from all parts of the country. Archbishop Bourne announced the alterations in the processions at a mass meeting at Albert Hall, amid a stoi-m of howls and hissing, adding , that though it was impossible to carry with them their Divine Master, they trusted that the onlooking Catholics would not only make the Cathedral, but the whole of Wesminster, one - great sanctuary of the Blessed Sacrament. Fifteen thousand children met at N? Victoria embankment, and marched to the cathedral to receive Cardinal Vanuutelli’s blessing. LORD RIPON’S NON-ATTEND-ANCE. United Peess Association. Copyright (Received Sept. 14, 11.45 p.m.) . LONDON, Sept 14. It is announced that a slight attack of rheumatism has detained Lord Ripon at his country seat, and he is therefore unable to attend the Eucharistic Congress.
