GENERAL NEWS.

Before the .Prince of Wales left Canada, .Mr Fraser and Mr .Murray, the Governor and Premier respectively of Nova Scotia, and Mr Fielding, the Federal Finance Minister, waited on His Royal Highness to ask him to convey to the Princess a beautiful fur cloak as the gift of the people ol Nova Scotia. The garment was made in Nova Scotia. It is of mink skin, and the buttons are of 21-carati Nova Scotia gold, with native pearls and amethysts, the workmanship being entirely native. The gift, is contained in a casket of native wood, trimmed with Nova Scotia steel and gold. The various New Zealand Associations and their centres have been discussing the preventing of deadheads, and would appear to bo falling into line on the question. At its last meeting the Canterbury centre carried a motion ‘ That in event of the jack being driven out of the coniines of the rink, it shall be brought back to the nearest point within the confines from the place''whore it came to rest; this is not to interfere with tho present method of play when tho jack remains in tho ditch within the coniines. ”
