Co.’s Monowai returns from Auckland on Sunday afternoon, and continues her voyage South in the evening. • Tho Canterbury S.S. Co.'s Ripple left yesterday for AVellington. and Oarnaru. Then she goes to AVanganui prior to leaving for her usual trio to tho Chatham Islands. AVhilst the mail steamer Orotavn, of the Orient-Royal Mail lino, was approaching her berth at. Port Melbourne' Railway Pier a few days ago she was caught in a severe squall from tile nor’-west, which caused the tow-line between her and the tug to carry away, the result being that the mail liner fell agains the pier stern first, smashing several piles and other woodwork. It is estimated that injury to the extent of £l5O was done to the pier, but the Orotava showed no traces of her encounter. BY TELEGRAPH. AUCKLAND, Sept. 24.
