[Press Association.] AVELLINGTON, Sept. 29. Following is tho High Commisioner’s cable, dated September 28th; Mutton: The market is dull oil account of heavy arrivals. The trade is very disappointing, thero being only a very hand-to-mouth demand. Canterbury mutton, as quoted at 4sd, North Island 3]d. Tho River Plate lamb market is weak, and dull of sale for heavy carcases. Tho market seems likely to decline. Canterbury lamb is quoted at 5Jd. The beef market is quiet hut steady. There is less demand for New Zealand brands on account of chilled beef from River Pinto selling at the same price.q Hindquarters are quoted at 4)d, forequarters at 3jj-. The butter market remains firm, and prospects arc favorable. Tho following are current quotations: Choicest New Zealand 116 s per cwt (nominal), Danish' 1235, Argentine 116 s, Canadian 117 s, Siberian 108 s. The cheese market is quiet, hut firm. There is a good demand for Canadian brands, which are quoted at 60s. The hemp market is rather quiet, and poor business has been done. The following are current quotations:— Good fair grade, on spot, £27 10s; fair grade, on spot, £23 10s. Oc-tober-December shipments are quoted as follows: Good fair grade £26, fair grade £23, fair current Manila £23 10s. Last week’s output from Manila amounted to 30,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. Buyers are not keen to do business. The American new crop has been sold at 80s per cwt. The market is firm,, with a hardening tendency The oat market is quiet. Prices are slightly weaker. ■ The market for beans,and peas is firm, with an upward tendency. The hop market is quiet, hut rather steadier.

LONDON, Sept. 27. AVhent: Higher American quotations and the cholera scare which has led to Russian shipments being quarantined at most European ports, lias caused a general hardening of the market. There is a good demand for prompt delivery and new crop shipments. A cargo of 6000 tons New South AVales Deccniber-January shipment per steamer sold at 36s 6d.
