WHELCH IN TRAINING
[Press Association.] CHRISTCIIU P CH, October 2 The A-karoa correspondent of the “Press” writes that AVholch is now doing solid work, taking a couple of spins daily over a three-mile course, going splendidly, and fully demonstrating his ability to last tho distance. Ho puts plenty of “vim” into his stroke, and gots a good pace out oi ■his boat, whilst his rowing of. tho last liiilo will como as a surprise to tlioso who doubt his staying powers. Rowing about 30, ho cuts the distance out in a timo which fully justifies the confidence of his backers. He will sign the articles to-day and cover Thorougligood’s deposit. It is expected that AA' helch will leave for Australia in a fortnight.
