, DUNEDIN, Oct- 3. A match between. Otago and Southland under Northern Union rules was played hqre to-day. Tho homo team contained no representative- players, but six who took part on senior intorclnb matches wero in tho team. The h : gli wind interfered somewhat with the play, but the game was fairly interesting. The Otago forwards were superior to their opponents, but tho Southland backs were better than those on the homo side. The game resulted in a win for Otago by 11 points to S. For tlio winners tries wore scored by Harrhy, Bryant, anti Walker, one being converted. Southland’s scores consisted of tries by Burgess and Burrows, and a goal from a maVk by Reid. RUGBY REFORM. [Press Association.] WANGANUI, Oct. 4. .The committee appointed by the Wanganui Rugby Union to report on the Otago Union’s motions re alterations in tho laws of tho gamo favor all except motion 4, “that tho rules re professionalism be revised so as to pav players for loss of time while touring with representative teams,” which tlio'delegates wore instructed to oppose. The Australian Rugby League team defeated Rhondda by -1 goals and 4 tries to 2 tries. The attendance was disappointing. In tho first half Morton and Jones each scored one try, and Messenger 2 tries, Messenger kicking 3 goals. In the second half Messenger dropped a goal, and AVrontmoro and Thomas secured tries for Rhondda. .Messenger was conspicuous for brilliant play.
