GENERAL MEETING
A general meeting of the Teachers’ Institute was held in tho Gisborne High School oil Saturday. There was a fair attendance of teachers. ■ Tho following remits were approved of to bo forwarded to the next meeting of tho N.Z.T.I.: —(a) “That in drawing up the English examination paper set by the Department more attention should ho given to formal gramnier.” (b) “That schools should not be graded on average attendance but on the average actual roll for the different- weeks throughout the year; no pupil who lias not put in an appearance for any week to be counted on the roll for that week.” (c) “That rille-shootiing should be placed on the syllabus as an additional subject.” (cl) “That a Dominion scheme of promotion for teachers is urgently needed.” (c) “That the evils of payment on average attendance have nob been remedied.” (f) “That a Dominion scale of payment for inspectors is urgently required.” The following supervisors were suggested for the Standard VI. synchronous examination to ho held in December next iGisborne District High School :—Ma'kauri and Gisborne District High School, Mr. Marshall-; Kaiti, Mr. Bull; Mangapapa, Mr. Cole; Convent and Matawhero, Ml. Rowley. Ormond:—AVaerenga-a-hika, Mr. Sefton; Onnond, Mr. McLeod; Iyaitaratahi and Te Karaka, Mr. Ellis. Te Arai;—Te Arai, Mr AVoodward ; Patutahi and Maraetalia, Mr. Faram. It was decided to hold. l the school sports this year oil November 16.
