NEW COUNTY OFFICES.

AM IMPOSING BUILDING.

The new offices which have been erected on Childers Road for tlio Cook County Council have been completed, and will be occupied at the ond of the present week. The building is two storeys high, in brick, and has a very massive and imposing appearance, superior, perhaps, to any county offices in the Dominion. Tlio Childers Road frontage is ornamented with a handsome pediment and balustrade, and the entrance is through an arched vestibule porch, tiled with mosaic tiles. An iron railing will be placed in front at a future date. On the ground floor is the public office which is conveniently fitted with a counter of. West Australian liardivood, or jarrali, and is well lighted. There is also tlio clerk’s office and strong room, collector’s and engineer’s.offices. A handsome staircaso leads to the first floor and upstairs is the council chamber, measuring 23ft by 33ft, well lighted with a largo tiled fireplace. The windows are arched, and those in tlio hall aro topped with lead lights hearing the county seal. Upstairs are also the chairman’s room and 1 two extra rooms. The ceilings aro all of metal, supplied by the Wonderlieli Company, that in the council chamber being coved and nicely tinted. The dado in the council chamber., is also of Wonderlieli metal, and the flooring throughout is seasoned matii. The walls are all plastered, and the partitions are lath and plaster. Mr. J. Morrison supplied the lead lights, Messrs F. Hall and Sons wore the stih-contraetors" for tlio plumbing, and Mr. McMaster sub-contractor for the plastering. The principal contractor was Mr. Jolin Somervell, and the price of the contract was £2OOO. Mr. T>. 11. Graham was the architect, and he states that the contractor lias every reason to ho proud of his work.
