NO-LICENSE CAMPAIGN. NEED OF FUNDS. THE ELECTION is drawing near,'and upon every Elec--tor will rest tlie responsibiity of saying by his or her vote whether the present temptations to drink are to eontiinie as they are, with all the sad results which follow in their train, or whether these temptations shall be lessened. The NO-LIOENSE LEAGUE URGENTLY NEED FUNDS to enable it to carry through its work, so as to leave no stone unturned to secure a reform which we believe must be of benefit to our district. AA\E APPEAL to all sympathis- ' ers to help according to their ability. F. AY. CHATTERTON, President. D. MORIGE, Treasurer. Cheques, Postal Notes, or Stamps may bo sent to the Treasurer (Mr. D. Morice, Gladstone Road). YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED. THE SALVATION ARMY AND DRINK. (FROM THE “AVAR CRY” OF AUG. 22, 1908.) “TF day after day the new T sH papers record murder, suicide, wife-beating, child ■ cruelty, crime in myriad form as the direct consequence of drink—a steady debauchery of society—can we doubt that the effects of such things are steadily undermining the home and family, the State, and nation.” Here are a few earnest words of tlio late Mrs. Booth in striving to arouse Christian people to fight against the curse of drink:— “Look on the multitudes who are led as sheep to the shambles by tliis great destroyer. Look on thousands, yes, tens of thousands of your fellowcountrymen, husbands and fathers, robbed at once of their earnings, their manhood, their reason, sent back to their hapless wives and children, worse, more unreasonable, tyrannical, and savage than the wiki beasts of the forest. Look on hosts of helpless, neglected children, ten times more to be pitied than those whom the heathen mother casts into the Ganges, and then say how long this modern Juggernaut shall roll down your streets unchallenged in this vaunted Christian land. Arise, arise, and fight this foe.” Who would dare to question on which side the saintly Airs. Booth or the ■ aged General would vote if they had the opportunity ? EVERYONE KNOAVS THEY -WOULD STRIKE OUT THE TOP LINE.
