NUHAKA NORTH.

A mooting of ratepayers (convened by Mr. Tail, mombor of the Wnu'oa r -unty Council) was bold in Cooper's ite Hotel, Mororo, on Wodnes'nst, 7th October. Mr. Shaw Mr. Tait said ho had called tlie mooting of ratepayers for tho purpose of ascertaining tlioir opinions on tho Comity Council’s proposal to proouro a loan of £12,000. On tho motion of Mr. N. Mclntyre, seconded by Mr. J. Reynolds, it was resolved —“That this mooting approves of tho Wairoa Comity Council’s proposal to proouro a lo in of £12,000 for tlio purpose of having motal placed on'the county roads.” In answer to a question, Mr. Tait stated tho voting for tho proposed loan would take placo early in November. Tho Council would moot on tho Btli inst. to consider the matter of distribution of amounts to tlio various ridings. Several of the Nuhnlca and Mnngaono ratepayer;? woro in favor of having the Maliia riding’s nortion of tho loan spent in metalling tho roul from tlio port of Waikokopu to Stewart’s Crossing. He mentioned this to tho comity engineer, who approved of tlio money hoing spent that way, but said that tho road near Waikokopu would .require to ho reformed and made wider. Mr. Shaw said it was difficult for vehicles to pass if they met on that portion of the road, but there was no necessity to havo tho whole length of tho narrow portion of the road made wider. If two or three places along tlio road woro made wide enough for a. waggon"to pull in and wait for another ono to pass that would ho sufficient. Mr. Reynolds said that to have the road metalled from Waikokopu to Stewart’s Crossing would no doubt suit tho Nuhaka settlers, but if that work was completed there would bo •no funds left for providing metal for other localities. Motal should bo placed on tlio main road each side of tho Tarewa Crossing. Those places w• •, -i.imo of the worst on tlie Gis, bo '':"ere road. J. ioopor said ho quite agreed with ’no remarks ro tlio Tarewa Crossing. After further discussion, it was decided that a lnceeting of ratepayers should be convened later on to consider tho question of procuring metal for various localities. A vote of thanks to file chairman, and also to Mr. Cooper f-or the use of one of liis rooms, terminated the proceedings-
