LABOR DAY.

PROCESSION AND SPOUTS.

To-day being Labor Day a statu- ■ ory holiday will be obseivod in rill factories and by all labor uni im throughout the Dominion. A closo 'business and brills: holiday will be observed in Gisborne as in most other towns.

The holiday will bo celebrated locally by a labor procession ’and sports meeting to bo held on tho Victoria Domain, the proceeds of -which will he applied to the funds of the proposed Maternity Home: Tile procession, which promises to he large and attr ictivo, is timed to start from the Lost .Office at half-past ten, and will proceed up Gladstone Hoad. Music will ho- supplied by tho City, Federal and Salvation Army bands, and many ljove,! features- will be introduced. Prizes ire offered for the best decorated bicycle, the best comically dressed cycle, and the host trade’s union display. The Mayor (Mr AV. D. Lysnar) will act as judge, and Mr C. F. Lewis as marshall.

The sport.-i will commence at 1 o-’cloek. All entries will be received on the grounds, und the following i.s the programme:—loo yards race for boys under 11, 100 yards race for youths under 18, high jump for -men, 230 yards race for men, high jump for hoys, girls’ race, tug-of-war between teams from the three hands, single women’® race, tug-of-war between married and single women, sack race for men, tug-of-war between teams from trade unions, and “catching the greasy pig.” In addition there will ho ii baby show, a shooting gallery, guessing competitions, and other side shows on tlie grounds. Hot water will ho provided free and refreshments may he had at town prices.
