The Secretary of the Marine .Department has written to the Christchurch City Council advocating the establishment, of municipal fish markets .in• the principal towns of the Dominion, it having been brought under the notice of the Department that suT'ch 'markets would bo a boon to fishermen” and the .public, ensuring fishermen a fair prico for their fish and the consumers supplies 'at a lower rate. The secretary asked the Council to consider the matter, and suspended further action until The Government has introduced legislation making it compulsory to sell all fish at municipal .markets where such are established; The last, municipal conference made such a recommendation, hut Tbo Government has done nothing in the .matter yet.
