NO-LICENSE AND POLITICS
[To the Editor. 1
. Sir.—l should dike to ask the “NoLicense League” in view of the resolution passed by thean, “That the League does not itself with contesting thgJ34ftbbfneseat at the forthcoming •poll,” if it cm explain, to me how it is that Air Barton still, advertises, himself as the “Labor and NO-111 cen_ s e”. candidate, and further, is advertised to speak at Patutalii in conjunction with the Rev. Grant on the 110-license question ? Does,, the League propose to pubkdli an equivocal disclaimer, as it did in the case of Mr A Vail, and then, after the election., if Air Darton is defeated, haoten to give air emphatic disclaimer and- to explain that it had nothing to do with him? If this is the method tho League proposes to adopt, I as well as others, I knoiv, will not be associated with it, and will not vote no-license unless the League .is prepared to disassociate itself openly and straightforwardly, with Mr. Darton, or any other political candidate. —I am, etc., “NO-LICENSE.” .. ‘Gisborne, 'October 15. [To the Editor.] Sir, —Last- night the Rev. Air Grant and Mr George Darton lectured 'at .Patutalii on No-license. No doubt- they lectured well, _ but that is not the point. The .point is that if the prohibition leaders allow the party to identify itself with IAIr Darton. '(a political .candidate), then many of its present supporters will change their minds before the polk ing day.—l am. etc., ' “ONE OF THEM.” . Gisborne, October 16.
