ENTERTAINMENTS.
COMPLIMENTARY CONCERT.
The Gisborne Orchestral Society will tender a complimentary concert to their professional members, in His Majesty’s Theatre, this evening. The programme arranged is one that should prove most attractive, as it includes some of the most popular orchestral items given at the Society’s two subscription concerts this season. The opening overture will be a selection from Gilbert and Sullivan's fairy opera “lolaiitke,” and other numbers are Balfe’s GSiege of Rochelle,” and a selection from “The Gondoliers.” _ Messrs 11. Baldrey and D. A ita will give u banjo and harp duo. and Airs. AI. L. Foster and D. Vita will play “Amadis,” a duo for piano and harp. The new tympaui recently imported for the Society will also be used in .public for the * first time at this concert. The programme _ of voc-d music is also .attractive. Airs. P. Barry will sing “’Roses” (Stephen Adams) and Lane’s “City by the Sea.” Air. Johnstone Brown will sing “The Trumpeter” (Dix), Air % A. AVililamson “Thou are Passing Hence,” and Air. J. C. Grimshaw Dol Rlogo’s “Happy Song.” Popular prices are being charged for the concert, and seats may be booked at Al Her’s without extra fee.
GISBORNE CITY BAND.
CONCERT AT TE KARAKA
Hiking advantage of the fine weather yesterday, the City Band jour-, neyed to Te Kanaka and, during the afternoon, treated the residents to a selection of music which, judging from the number who were present, met with considerable appreciation, file members of the Band were the guests of hr. It . Carlisle, and shortly il'ter arrival sat down to a sumptuous dinner', to which one and all did lull justice. At 2.30 p.m. the men formed ' into line, and playing the popular march “Cavalier,” marched to the bend of the road near the river ford, where Mr. Chum Brown had arranged mats under the willow trees. The following programme of music was then gone through:—March, “Newtown” ; selection, “Echoes of the Ocean” ; march, “Marechal Neil” ; selection, “Somnambula”; waltz, “Nadu”; march,“Death or Glory” ; schotcisclie, “Touch and Go,” concluding with the National Anthem.
