A BRISBANE SENSATION.
BANK CLERK MURDERED.
; SHOT BY A BURGLAR, '"SUSPECTED MAN DISAPPEARS. United Press Association. Copyright _ (Received Oct. 20, 12.20 a.m.) BRISBANE, Oct. 19. Mi* J. Muir, junr., a clerk at Gayndah branch of the Commercial Banking Company, of Sydney, was found shot dead on tho bank premises-last night.: A railway porter, passing the bank, •heard the sound of breaking glass, and summoned the police, who discovered Mr. Muir’s, body on the floor. There are indications that burglars had tampered with, but had failed to open the safes of the bank, which is a small wooden building. Muir is but 18 years of age, and only recently went to Gayndah. The manager being temporarily absent, Mr. Muir took his place in sleeping at the bank. He left his boarding-house to go to the bank a few minutes before the shots were heard.
It as believed that a burglar was hidden in the bank, and shot Mr. Muir when entering his bedroom. A strange hat and a broken lamp were lying near the body, which bore four revolver wounds and a fifth through the hand. A man who is suspected has disappeared.
