PERSONAL.
Mr. A. F. Carey, who was on Monday elected President of the New Zealand Baptist Conference,; is a great-grandson of a famous divine — the Rev. William Carey, rhe pioneer Baptist missionary in India. Dr. Carey was born in Northamptonshire in 1761, and commenced missionary work in British India in 1794. Ho was the author of a number of Indian dictionaries and grammars. Dr. Carey died at Serampore in 1834. A graceful compliment was recently paid by the newly-formed Christchurch Nurses’ Association to Sister Marion (Miss Yousden. one of Florence Nightingale’s nurses) and Mrs. Grace Neill (ex-Lady Inspector of Hospitals in New Zealand). It was unanimously decided to elect these two ladies life members of the Association.
At the Presbyterian Church, Ormond yesterday, Mr. Reginald B. Burgess, of Manchester, England, was married to Miss Georgina M. Bruce, fourth daughter of the late Sir. George Bruce, of Yarrow Braes, Ormond. The Rev. R. W. Walker, of Ormond, officiated, and the Bride was given away by Mr. J. W. Bright. Miss Isabel Bruce (sister of the bride) and Miss N. Jeffrey acted as bridesmaids. Mr. David Scott was best man, and Mr. H. Bruce groomsman, the church had been nicely decorated tor the ceremony with flowers and ei ergrens. In the evening the happy couple left by steamer for Napier en route to Auckland and Rotorua.
