A BEMAND
A young man named Arthur George Clegliorn was charged with attempting to leave the colony without making provision for. the support of his unborn illegitimate child. ■ Air Kirk-appeared for the accused and asked for • a remand for seven days so as to allow a settlement to be arrived at between the' parties. He requested that the bail be made as light .as possible. The remand' was granted, bail being allowed in one surety of £2O.
INDECENCY
Alfred Anderson, a young man, and Ada Miller, alias Ada Hansen, were charged with indecency in Cobden street on Tuesday evening. The accused elected to be dealt with by the. Magistrate.. Anderson pleaded guilty, and the woman pleaded not guilty, stating that she did not remember anything about the alleged act. ■Detective Bawlc. gave evidence, when*Mr T. A. Coleman came into Court, said be appeared for both accused, and cross-examined the DetecSergeant Hutton gave corroborative evidence. * Mr Coleman asked the Bench to consider certain alleged mitigating circumstances. The Magistrate said that the accused Hansen had been frequently before the Court and would be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. The male accused would be sentenced to seven' days imprisonment. The woman, on hearing the sentence, collapsed in the dock.
