Replying to Count Komura’s speech bidding -farewell to the American fleet, Admiral Sperry declared that no two countries had ever clasped hands across the sea so warmly. Both might rest content that intelligent sympathy had drawn ancientties still closer. The public’s send-off to the fleet was enthusiastic. LONDON, Oct. 24. The “Standard’s” New York correspondent says that it is reported at Tokioi that Japan desires a conference of the Powers interested in the Pacific to discuss and settle matters containing possibilities of future friction. It is stated that Japan is prepared to convene a conference unless Britain or America initiates it.
