MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.
.A meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the office of the Secretary (Mr A. Graham) yesterday morning. Present: Messrs A. R. Watson (President) W. K. Chambers, A. -H. Bridge and H. E. Kent. An apology for absence was received from Mr T. Elliott.
The Dominion Secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union forwarded a number of letters for branches and questions to Parliamentary candidates with instructions to distribute same among local branches. The Secretary reported ho had followed fhe instructions contained in the letter.
Mr Bridge stated that his branch (Motu) had already put the questions to the Bay of Plenty candidates. It was decided that the llakauroa and Motu -branches be -asked to forward copies of the replies received from candidates.
The Canterbury Provincial secretary wrote forwarding copies of the circular letter and collecting list in connection with the National testi- J •monial from the farmers of New Zea- j land to Messrs D. Jones and It. Evans in recognition of their services j to the farming community in. their j conduct of the recent farm laborers dispute in Canterbury. Appreciation of Mes-srs Jones and Evans’ services was expressed and it was resolved 1 to forward collecting j lists to the various branches. The President reported that he had been requested by Air G. J. Black to call an- indignation meeting of farmers at Matawliero to protest against the action of the Government in connection with the grazing runs question and that, after due consideration, he had declined to do so. The President’s action was approved. A discussion on the -grazing runs question tools place and the following resolution, to be submitted to branches for their consideration, was unanimously carried : —That this executive urges the Land Board to protest against Ministerial interference with their decisions re grazing runs, or other matters- within their ©onstit-u----tion, and, further, requests the Board to give tenants extended notice of their intentions to renew, or otherwise, tenants’ leases. T-he question of levy on branches was discussed, and it was mentioned that the levy would be- probably increased next year owing to the likely appointment of a paid organiser. “ The next meeting was fixed for early in December.
