HARBOR BOARD.
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Gisborne Harbor Board "was held yesterday morning. Present: the Chairman (Mr John Townley), Messrs W. •Sievwright, AY. D. Lysnar, D. Hepburn, J. Clark, G. Matthewson, F. Harris, J. Whinray, and the Hon. Captain Tucker. The Poverty Bay Roving Cl'ub asked for permission to erect a boatshed on the river bank on the north side of ißright street. The request was granted, the exact' site to bo selected by the Board. The Gisborne Borough Council asked for the right to cart- gravel from the Kaiti beaoh without royalty. Captain Tucker said he did mot think the gravel should be given away. Mr Lysnar : The Board-is not using the gravel. The Board damaged the road, so let the Borough have the gravel that is not being used. Captain Tucker: The (Board has been warned to take care of the gravel and conserve it for harbor use, and it would be a mistake to let the gravel go, and have to buy metal to take its place. Mr Lysnar: There is a resolution allowing people to remove the gravel and the Council only asks the Board to forego the royalty. Captain Tucker moved that the request be not complied with. Mr Clark seconded the motion. Mr Whinray said he -regretted the letter had come before the Board, and thought that consideration should be deferred. He moved as an amendment that the sale of the gravel be left to the discretion of the Board. Captain Tucker’s motion was carried. . . Captain Solvander and Foreman Mackay, of the Board’s dredge, reapplied for an increase of salary. It was decided to inform the ‘applicants that tlie question of salaries would be considered at the end of the financial year. ~ , Mr Lysnar’s motion to reduce the port charges on coastal steamers, carried at a previous meeting of the Board, was confirmed. e-d the dredges and found that not one would he suitable for work in the rivers at Gisborne. He had also seen two buoys for sale in Wellington, and advised the Board to purchase them. -It was -decided: to purchase tho buoys front the AVellington Harbor Board;: Tho overseer reported on work done regarding AVailiirere stone; lie was of opinion that excellent -material oouM be obtained for breakwater purposes. Ho submitted a block of stone that he had blasted out, according to instructions. The sample was spoken of by members as a very good one. - The report was referred back for an estimate of tho cost of working the quarry. The Board then discussed tlio report of tlie Finance Committee on the Outer Harbor.
