AN ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION. A HEROIC MAHARAJAH. . United Press Association. Copyright (Received Nov. 9, 10.15 p.m.) CALCUTTA, Nov. 9. Professor Burton, of Chicago University, was about to give a lecture in Overton Hall, Northern Calcutta, when a Bengali youth, afterwards giving the name of Roy Chowdlniry, rushed forward and tftrust a revolver within six .inches of Lieut.-Governor Eraser, and pulling the trigger twice, missed fire. He was disarmed. Meanwhile Mararajali Burdman had stepped forward, shielding Governor Fraser. This is the fourth attempt oil the latter’s life.
The newspaper “Englishman” considers that the anarchist propaganda is deeper and wider than anybody supposed.
