Mr. ?Sutton-lurncr, wlio lias been paying a visit to Gisborne in connection with the compilation.of the New Zeal iml edition of the " Directors of Manufacturers of Australasia,” ’left yesterday by the Tarawera for 'Wellington.

The members of the Gisborne. Rowing Club met at the Cosmopolitan Club on Saturday evening, to bid farewell to Mr. A. E. N. Smith, who has been promoted bv the New Zealand Loan -and Mercantile Agency Co. to the position of manager of their newly-formed branch at Wairon. Mr. F. Kennedy, president, on behalf of the members, presented Mr. Smith with a handsome travelling big and dressing-ease, and spoke in eulogistic terms of his many good qualities. The recipient suitably replied. Mr. Smith ha? held the 'position of treasurer to the Gisborne Rowing Club for a number of years, md lias rendered the club vvoman service.
