Mr. ?Sutton-lurncr, wlio lias been paying a visit to Gisborne in connection with the compilation.of the New Zeal iml edition of the " Directors of Manufacturers of Australasia,” ’left yesterday by the Tarawera for 'Wellington.
The members of the Gisborne. Rowing Club met at the Cosmopolitan Club on Saturday evening, to bid farewell to Mr. A. E. N. Smith, who has been promoted bv the New Zealand Loan -and Mercantile Agency Co. to the position of manager of their newly-formed branch at Wairon. Mr. F. Kennedy, president, on behalf of the members, presented Mr. Smith with a handsome travelling big and dressing-ease, and spoke in eulogistic terms of his many good qualities. The recipient suitably replied. Mr. Smith ha? held the 'position of treasurer to the Gisborne Rowing Club for a number of years, md lias rendered the club vvoman service.
Hr. "YV. Miller cabled to Gisborne on Saturday that he had reached Adelaide on the homeward journey. He should arrive in New Zealand iir about ten days’ "time.
Father Lo Petre, of Hawke's Bav, reached Wellington recently by the Moeraki, after a health trip to'ltaly and France. Father Le Petre came out to Sydney in the Ortona. He returns at once to Wairo.i, the headquarters of his Maori mission work. American papers record the death at Boston on September 26 of Professor Frank Parsons (51), who was well-known us a law lecturer and social economist. Professor Parsons was a Boston University man, and wrote for the "Arena.” ‘‘Outlook,” and other journals on the subjects of monopolies, economies, and sociology. He also studied New Zealand labor legislation, and was the author of "The Story of New Zealand.”
