DUNEDIN, NOV. 14. The Presbyterian General Assembly continued its deliberations yesterday. The Theological College Committee reported a successful year. The number of students was somewhat smaller, only one finishing this year, as against twelve last year, but sixteen or seventeen entrants are expected .next- year, wliicli will pul tip a neit record. Including university students, fifty-seven were studying for the ministry of the Church at home or- abroad. The report was adopted. The Residential College Committee reported that the total contributions to the building fund were £26,716. ihe committee recommended that the college be open to students of all faculties and all denominations, and that the master of the college be elected by the Assembly and hold office for five years. It was also reported that the endowment fund amounted to £l4Bl 18s Bd. It was decided that the salary of the master be £6OO per annum, but the recommendation that the appointment be for a term of five years was negatived. The committee was instructed to arrange for the opening of the College for the 1909 session. It was also decided to make a collection to raise the salary of the master of the college. The Assembly also decided that in view of the large number of vacant charges, and the limited number of ministers and students available, the Moderator be requested to issue a pastoral letter, drawing the attention of young meib to the call of the ministry, and' to ref mit the question to- the college comb mittee to devise means of remedying the defect, the committee to report! to the next Assembly. .) The Presbyterian Assembly this! morning offered the Rev. H. Hewit-j son, of Knox'Church, the position of master of the Knox College, which! carries a salary of £6OO yearly. Mr., Hewitson is taking time to consider the offer.
