MOTU
The Motu Branch of the New* Zealand Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting on 7th inst., Mr R. F. Jackson in the chair.
The Branch decided to donate two guineas towards the testimonial to Messrs Jones and Evans, of Canterbury. The Rakauroa Branch asked the branch to co-operate with them in desiring tho Minister for _ Railways to scud ail oxiiert to examine tlie local red birch to ascertain if it is suitable for railway sleepers. This was agreed to, it being realised that expert examination- Avill decide if railway material is obtainable Avithin the district.
With the consent of the Chief Stock Inspector, and personal assistance of Inspector Ross, tho .Secretary lias been able to obtain a complete and official list of the brands and. ear-, marks in the Motu district. This Avill be of great use to the settlers, and the Branch tenders its thanks to Inspector Millar and Ross. The list can be examined at any time and Avill be found Avith the secretary. Mr D. N. McMillan, of the Hoads Department, is to be asked to- construct Avings to each side of the new Motu bridge as a necessity for the safe transit of horses and general stock. Air AlcAlillan is algo to be asked to make a connecting road between the Pakilii Road and the old Alotu Road, about the Torangahau saddle, thereby 'reducing the distances from Alotu to Alaromoko, Wliitakau, Papainoa :and Opotiki by about seven miles. The connecting link Avill be about thirty chains dong.
