THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON.
, WELLINGTON, Nov. 17. The Australian squadron, consisting of H.M.S. Powerful (flagship), H.M.S. Challenger, and H.M.S. Pegasus, arrived’ in the harbor this morning, in company with H.M.S. Encounter, which went out yesterday to meet the new arrivals. This is the first occasion on which Admiral Sir Richard Poore has visited these waters. Admiral Poore’s secretary, Mr. Gilbert, was on the bridge with the late Admiral Tyron on the "V ictoria when he „wae rammed by the Camperdown when' executing manoeuvres in the Kj Mediterranean. Special arrangements are being made by the Wellington branch of the Navy League to entertain the fleet during its ptay in Wellington. On Friday a reception will • ,be held at the Town Hall, at which has been given .by the .officer commanding the district''-, for officers, to wear uniform. On Thursday .night , the Admral and his officers will be entertained at dinner by the members of the Wellington Club. To-morrow the boat crews of the Amokura will 'compete fpr the Victory Shield, presented by the lady •members of the League, and Adm>ral to be .asked to pjesent the shield to the winning crew. On Friday night His Excellency the Governor will be present, and it is also expected. that Sir Joeeplj ftfid Lady Ward will attend;
