MR. SHERIDAN’S STATEMENT— A REPLY.
[To the Editor.]
Sir, —I am surprised that Mr. Sheridan has the audacity in his extraordinary letter inserted in both papers to try and persuade the public that I had failed to keep the agreement made with Mr. Lysnar with regard to the figures published under our joint- names- His letter is only one mere instance of the way in which attempts have been repeatedly made to withhold the truth from the electors. He wished the publish ed figures with regard to Invercargill’s liquor consumption to speak for themselves, ’n spite of the fact that the one item which was required to clear up the whole position was obliged to be left out because not officially confirmed till too lute for publication. The public will easily judge who it was that was trying to keep them in ignorance of an important fact, and will see from Mr. Lysnar’s letter that one of the original stipulations made by me was that “if there are any facts •which affect the position of the figures winch affect planation as will -make them clear is to be added.” I need say no more with Tegard to this ugly business. I am. CHATTERTON.
