At the Supreme Court, to-day, John Patrick Collins, charged with theft Of .a goflld watch and chain, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, and T-hos. Inchey, for indecent- as, s-ault, to five years. Alfred Herbert Hayes was charged at the Supreme Court to-day on three counts with having on August 19th last, at Greytown, (1) Discharged a gun at Andrew Hope with intent to do him grievous bodily harm ; (2) caused him -actual bodily harm; (3) committed an assault upon him. After evidence had been taken, the Crown, at His Honor Mr. Justice Cooper’s suggestion, withdrew the major counts, and prisoner pleaded guilty to the charge of common assault, and was fined 20s.

CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 20
At the Supreme Court to-day, Robert Baxter was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for an indecent assault on a child of five years. Henry (Scrimshaw, an old man of 72 was sentenced to two years on a charge of attempted carnal knowledge, and Alexander Johnston, J3l years of age, was sentenced to 12 months on a charge o'f indecent assault. John William Taut, a Christchurch builder, was acquitted on a charge of obtaining a loin of £SO by means of false pretences. Ho admitted two breaches of the Bankruptcy Act by contracting debts of £'So 12s Id and £270 when he'had no reasonable prospect of paying the same. He was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, without hard labor.
