Two hundred and fifty peers, who met at Lord Lansdowne’s house, overwhelmingly resolved to reject the Licensing Bill to-dav, because they considered it would not "materially advance the cause of temperance and violated every principle of equity in its dealings with the numerous classes whose interests are affected. Redmond’s Bill to remove Roman Catholic disabilities end alter the coronation oath has been read a first time by 233 to 48, after Mr. McArthur’s opposition, based on the argument that the measure struck at the guarantee of a Protestant succession, and also that Roman Catholics never extended toleration to others.
