Professor Ernest Rutherford has been awarded the Nobel prize for chemistry. [Professor Rutherford was born at Nelson, and is about 37 years of age. Ho is a graduate of Canterbury College. The Nobel prizes are live in number, each worth about £BOO9. and ore awarded annually, under the will of the late Dr. Alfred Bernhard Nobel, the Swedish engineer and che-
mist, to those persons who shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind during the preceding year. The Nobel foundation, is administered by a Board of Control at Stockholm.]
