.At the Arbitration Court to-day the Canterbury Typographical' Association appliedj for an: interpretation of an award, six printing and publishing firms being joined as parties. The employers had l adopted; the multiple of 37 dn calculating the output of brevier type. The Union contended that the multiple should he 40. Mr. Selig, for the employers, .said' the multiple was settled) by 'the award and fixed by. the number- of en-quads cast up iffwa line. Woi.cn the question, arose both. sides submitted a case in writing to the makers of type and a reply was received to the offcct that the type in question ■ was brevier. The only way to measure, typo was by the number of en-quads cast up in a. line. When the operators worked on piecework well over 7500 ens were produced ini an hour. Decision on the point was reserved.
