Messrs Nelson Bros-’ s.s. Tuna went out -in the Bay yesterday afternoon about 4.30 p.m. with the intention of intercepting the Tyser liner Mimiro on her way South from Auckland, and of transhipping from her the company’s new oil launch, which has just been completed to their order by Mr. C. Bailey, of Auckland. The Tuna returned to port about 7 p.m., ■unsuccessful in lier mission, Captain Binnio reporting that he could see no sign of the largo vessel, although he had gone out ia considerable distance. in connection'Avith the opening of the new offices of the Union Steamship Company, an Childers Road, a pleasant function took place on Saturday evening, when by invitation of Mr. Preston, the office staff and the captain and crew of tlio Tuatea gathered together in the manager’s room to celebrate the occasion. A most enjoyablo time was'spent, and the toasts of “The Union Company” and “Tlio Manager” were most enthusiastically drunk, the latter accompanied by the singing of “For he’s a jolly good fellow.” A number of congratulatory speeches were made, and the gathering broke -up at an early hour.
