WHITE ISLAND ACTIVE.
[Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 7. The s.s. Wanaka, . which tinn ed from southern ports and Napier today, passed White Island at 10 a.m. crater on the island was excopoM.iaily active, and,, although tlie steam and smoke was wholly white, *it was n suing in huge voiLuinos. It is probable tin it this increased activity is conincident with the cessation of the earthquakes at Whakatane, t : nd is affording a vent for the underground forces.
