DEATH OF A GUARD.
MIRACULOUS ESCAPE OF PASSENGERS.

Costello, the guard, died from injuries received in the Blue Mountains accident.
The.passengers had a miraculous es>cape. The runaway vehicles dashed down a grade on one in forty at a terrific pace. The passengers cars were at the end of the train and became tho foremost in the mad rush downwards when the break-away occurred. Tlio derailment of the waggons following the ears stayed the onward progress, and saved the lives of the passengers. The train was laden with copper, wool, and chaff. The wool burned fiercely. When the firo broke out hundreds of men working on the deviation of the line threw earth on the fire, and extinguished it.
