EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES
Th© following ure tlie orders for December in connection with the East Coast Mounted Rifles: —; Parades: Members are. reminded that the squadron will parade on Saturday, 19th December, 1908, as under, for inspection by Major ltuysel!, officer commanding the regiment.— Mounted at Newstead, Makaraka. at 3 p.m.; dismounted at Garrison Hall, Gisborne, at 7.30 p.m.;. uniform, lvharki, review order; absentees are liable to a fine of 20s under paragraph 197 General Regulations, 3906. Appointment: Q.-M. Sergt. Zacliu-ria-h has been elected captain of the Gisborne Deronce Cadets, but will not transfer till the end of volunteer vear (February 2S, 1909), in the meantime Sergt. J.W. Fairlie is appointed assistant Q.-M. Sefgt. Capitation: The several members who failed to attend the annual training camp in May last have boon notified that they must attend the. camp of the ITuru-mua M.R. at Wairoa or thev will bo held liable for the capitation (93 10s) lost by .their default. The Hurumua M.R. go into camp at Wairoa. from sth to 12th February, 1909. Rifles and Sidearms : Members who have not received their anno since the armorer’s inspection in October last are notified that the Q.-M. Sergt. will attend at the Garrison Hall on Friday, 11th hast., at 7.30 p.m., for the purpose of issuing same; members unable to attend personally should .make arrangements with another member to receive their rifles. Easter Camp: It is hereby notified that the annual training camp required by paragraph 366 General Regulations will be held during Eastei week, 1909, at the locality chosen for next Easter manoeuvres. The squadron will require to embark on Sunday, April 4,1909, and will return on Wednesday, April 14, 1909. It is expected that every member will do bis utmost to attend, otherwise be will not be able to capitate for next year. Members can obtain further information from myself or their troop officers, and those unable to attend will notify me or troop officer as soon as possible. Recruits: There are vacanices for Hovers* 1 recruits, and members knowing any likely to join should notify >mo at once. —J. Tombleson, Captain. It- has been arranged that the squadrons attached to the 4th regiment of ■tile Wellington Mounted Rifles, with which the E.C.M.R. are connected, will hold their annual training camp three days before the Easter manoeuvres. Under this arrangement only seven days will he occupied altogether instead of eleven days as previously. It is expected that about 50 of the local squadron will participate, in the manoeuvres, and Lieut. Evans is arranging about commissioning a transport. since the steamer Toroa has been isold and will not be available to transport the Gisborne volunteers on this occasion.
It is also expected that a number of the members of the Gisborne Rifles will attend the manoeuvres.
GISBORNE RIFLES
A meeting of officers and non-com-missioned . officers of the Gisborne Rifles will be hetd in _the Garrison Hall to-morrow evening to discuss the practicability of holding week-end camps, and a field day during the Christmas holidays.
CITY DEFENCE CADETS
Quarter-Master Sergt. Zachariah ■has agreed to take the command of the City Defence Cadets, and is expected to assume the position at the beginning of the next volunteer year.
