THE NEW ZEALAND DEADLOCK. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 9. Mr. Coombes, president of the Amateur Athletic Union of Australia, who arrived to-day, was asked his opinion on the deadlock existing in regard te athletics in the Dominion,, and-said that the Australasian Union hail no jurisdiction in local affairs, and an appeal could only be discussed after it had been forwarded by the governing body, which in the case of New Zealand was the Council. The Union might adjudicate, by consent of both parties, without going into the merits of the dispute, which only appeared to concern points of procedure. He thought it would have been reasonable to have forwarded the appeal for either an expression of opinion or 'a ruling. The disaffected side hag -written to him and 'he intends te convene the Australasian Union with a view to healing the breach, but is clear that the Union can at present only recognise the Council.
