SHORT-DISTANCE RACING

DEPRECATED BA' STOCK INSPECTOR.

United Press Association, Copyright

SYDNEY, Dec. 9

The Chief Inspector of Stock, in his report presented to Parliament, strongly deprecates short-distance racing as detrimental! to the horsebreeding industry, and as encouraging animals devoid of stamina and quality, which have gained for Australian horses their reputation among foreign buyers. Flo recommends that tho standard height of animals allowed to race at unregistered meetings should not exceed 14] hands, the recognised pony standard. This would compel horses to_ compete in their proper class, and act a,s iati incentive to stopping the breeding of weedy animals.
