Mr Norman Hyslop, representing Messrs Fletcher, Humphreys and Co., of Christchurch, agents for Amber Tips tea, is in town. News arrived by the American mail that Mr E. J. Lewis, of the I'lndianapolis News,” will probably visit the islands of the South Pacific and New Zealand on behalf of “Harper’s Magazine” next year. Mr. p. E. Hallam, who is severing his connection with Messrs Teat and Friar’s establishment to enter into business on ;his own account, was entertained by his fellow employees on Saturday evening and presented with a handsome case of pipes. Mr_ M. Neill made the presentation, and referred to the kindly feeling which had always existed between Mr. Hallam and the rest of the staff, and on behalf of his fellow employees wished him every success in his new undertaking. In Holy Trinity Church on h-atnr-day afternoon, Mr. J. ,S. Yvauchop. headmaster of the Makauri Public School, was married to Miss I'. H. (Freda) Cox, of Gisborne. The vicar (Rev. L. Dawson Thomas) officiated, and the bride was given away by her brother, Mr. A. J. Cox. The bridesmaids were the Misses Elsie Cook, Vera. Ormond, and Alison Bain, while Mr. L. ,B. iSherriff acted as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held itt Mr. J. H. Ormond’s residence, Whataupoko, where a large number of guests were entertained. Among the presents received by th bride were an afternoon tea set and pair of silver salt cellars from the children - attending the Makauri Schol, and a. handsome silver teapot from the Poverty Bay Rugby Union and members of the Gisborne Football Club, of which Mr. Wauchop is a member.

The teachers attending the sewing classes at the Technical School on-Sat-urdav presented the instructress, Mrs Thomas, with a silver-mounted comb jiud brush as a mark of esteem. Miss Faubert, in making the presentation., on behalf of the teachers, .referred to the kindness the elass had always experienced from Mrs. Thomas, and wished her a hapnv and prosperous New Year. Mrs. Thomas suitably replied. „ A presentation of a case of pipes was made on Saturday afternoon bv members of the Gisborne Tennis Club to .Mi’. T. Alston Coleman, on the occasion of his approaching marriage with Miss Stella. Hamilton. Mr. Blackburn, in making the presentation, referred to Mr. Coleman’s long connection with the club, ho having been one of the original members when the club was formed in 1894. On behalf of the dub, Mr. Blackburn extended hearty congratulations. Mr. Coleman made brief and suitable response. ; The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr. H. Trent) and Mr. Hyde, a member of the Land Board, returned to Napier last evening.
